CREATURES

CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT

Born before history. Feared beyond legend.
The first bloodline never died.

Not all creatures are granted the liberty of appearing as they truly are. In every age, the world has demanded familiar faces, rewarding resemblance with acceptance and condemning difference to exile. Thus, countless beings have learned to veil their nature beneath borrowed forms, wearing the likeness of humanity as one might don a ceremonial mask.

Few now remember that humankind itself was never a single people. In ages so distant that even memory has surrendered them to silence, many branches of mankind walked the earth—so unlike one another that they could seldom share blood. They contended without mercy until endless wars, famine, and the slow vengeance of the natural world erased nearly every lineage. Only one endured, carrying within its veins the faintest traces of those forgotten kindreds, diluted almost beyond recognition.

Yet humanity was never the only child of Creation.

There exists another lineage, one that did not arise from clay awakened by celestial breath. Its beginning lies elsewhere, hidden beneath the roots of the world, where light has never reached and forgotten tongues still whisper through ancient stone. They were born not of a father enthroned in the heavens, but of a mother who slumbers beneath the earth, veiled in darkness older than the first dawn.

Long before the foundations of kingdoms were laid, before the first cathedral lifted its spires toward the sky, the world belonged to others. Their footsteps echoed through primeval forests, crossed mountains untouched by human hands, and wandered beneath moons that witnessed an age no mortal chronicle has preserved.

She is remembered only as the All-Mother—the first matriarch, the hidden wellspring of an older branch of Creation. From her dreams, her grief, and her unfathomable will came children unlike any born of mankind. Some bear faces that pass unnoticed in the crowded streets of kingdoms. Others can never conceal what they are, no matter how carefully they hide.

Their bloodlines are many.

The Revenants, whose immortal hunger mirrors the patient dominion of the bat.

The Lycans, fierce heirs to the wolf, bound to tooth, instinct, and the untamed wilderness.

The Witches, who speak the forgotten languages of wind, flame, stone, and sea, weaving the ancient forces that shaped the world before scripture gave them names.

And the Warlocks—not merely male witches, but a race apart. Solitary and fiercely territorial, they are predators by nature, and among their oldest rites survives the dreadful sacrament of consuming their own kind.

Yet these are not the only wonders concealed beneath the veil.

There are beings born not of earth, but of the Smokeless Flame—creatures of conscience, flesh, and living magic, whose voices may bend destiny itself and whose gifts have, through the centuries, been mistaken for miracles.

And there are others born from the ash left behind when that sacred fire first touched the world. Hollow where a soul should dwell, they wander with an endless hunger for the one thing forever denied to them. They covet life not because they possess it, but because they never shall.

As the ages unfolded, these ancient lineages crossed with one another and, at times, with humanity itself. From such unions emerged countless new branches—some noble, some monstrous, and many too strange for language to faithfully describe. A few were revered as gods, kings, or saints. Others vanished into secrecy, hunted by fear and superstition. Many disappeared so completely that only whispered names remain in forgotten libraries, written in inks no longer understood.

Though their forms, temperaments, and gifts differ beyond measure, nearly all trace their ancestry to the same forgotten source. They are the descendants of the All-Mother, whose endless dream continues to stir beneath the hidden places of the earth, where her children endure beyond the reach of ordinary sight.

Remember this well: mankind did not inherit the world alone. It merely inherited the illusion that it had.

For every kingdom raised beneath the sun, another has endured in silence beneath the shadow.

And the oldest truths do not perish. They sleep beneath stone, beneath forest, beneath blood—waiting for the day the world is forced to remember them once more.

The Bonds

Bound by love, instinct, or darker things

To seek the company of one's own is neither accident nor custom, but an immutable truth woven into Creation since the dawn of the first age. Every creature, whether mortal or immortal, answers an ancient call that draws it toward those who share its nature. Among the Lycans, this calling gives rise to tightly bound packs sustained by fierce devotion, mutual sacrifice, and the enduring bonds of family. Revenants gather in silent colonies concealed within the earth's forgotten places, where ancient stone, perpetual darkness, and the passing centuries offer sanctuary from the world above. The celestial hosts likewise assemble, though their purposes could not stand farther apart: angels in perfect harmony beneath the will of Heaven, demons beneath banners of pride, dominion, and ceaseless rivalry. It is often said that destiny is found in solitude, yet history teaches that every great power first learned to stand together.

COVENS

When they gather the wrold trembles

A Coven is the living heart of the Old Ways, a fellowship of witches united not simply by the practice of magic, but by an unbroken covenant of memory, reverence, and sacred tradition. Within the shelter of forgotten sanctuaries, where beeswax candles cast golden light upon worn leather tomes and ancient stones echo with whispered invocations, elders pass their hard-won wisdom to those chosen to continue the lineage. Under the watchful guidance of a matriarch, apprentices learn the rites of the seasons, the hidden virtues of root and herb, and the silent laws that bind the visible world to realms beyond mortal sight. Far from the kingdoms of men, covens flourish in secluded forests, forgotten valleys, and quiet villages where the veil between worlds grows thin, serving as steadfast custodians of mysteries that have endured since the dawn of memory. For while empires are raised and reduced to dust, the circles of the witches are broken only when the earth itself forgets their names.
