About:
REVENANTS
Chiropteran, Upir, Strzyga, Revenant, Vampire.
All niames of the same Night Terror
Among all the hidden peoples, none have inspired more fear, fascination, or falsehood than the Revenants. Men will know them as vampires, priests as abominations, poets as lovers of the night, and peasants as monsters lurking beyond the firelight. None of these names capture their true nature. The Revenant is neither demon nor beast, but the unnatural continuation of a human life through the Black Blood of the Mother. To mistake them for mere predators is to underestimate them; to mistake them for men is to invite one's own ruin.
Many believe the Revenants rule because they are the strongest among the hidden peoples. They are mistaken. Strength wins battles; patience inherits civilizations. I have watched kingdoms rise and vanish beneath the weight of years, while a single careful decision, made centuries earlier by one of my kind, continued to shape the world long after every mortal who opposed it had become dust. In the end, immortality is less a gift than an accumulation of consequences, and the wisest among us learn that survival is measured not by the blood one drinks, but by the futures one quietly arranges.
I
The Vampire Primordium
When divine blood was cursed through mingle with the blood of dying mortals, a knew been came to existance,
Neither dead nor alive, yet bound to eternity and darkness
Contrary to other Children of the Night, the Revenants could hardly be considered a different species.
They started as mere humans.
Just people who died, and were brought back from the clutches of death through an unholy rite of another of the kind.
The first Revenants were fashioned by the All-Mother during the Dawn of the Unseen. Unlike every other race, they possess no natural birthright. A Revenant is never born, but made. Their existence begins with death, followed by rebirth through the Black Blood. Thus every Revenant carries two lineages: one inherited from mortal ancestry, another bestowed by the blood that transformed them.
II
The Vampire Physis
Revenants (Vampires), amongst withces, warlocks and lycans, belong to "The Hidden People" also known as the "Children of the Night", yet they could hardly be considered a different race.
They started as mere humans.
Just people who died, and were brought back from the clutches of death through an unholy rite of another of the kind.
III
The Vampire Genos
The first Revenants were fashioned by the All-Mother during the Dawn of the Unseen. Unlike every other race, they possess no natural birthright. A Revenant is never born, but made. Their existence begins with death, followed by rebirth through the Black Blood. Thus every Revenant carries two lineages: one inherited from mortal ancestry, another bestowed by the blood that transformed them.
IV
The Vampire Archē
The Revenants are the oldest, mightiest, and wisest of the Children of the Unseen, but this is not why they sit at the top.
Time and experience may make them wiser and more powerful, but it is their overpowering instinct for survival that drives them to seek permanence and security across the ages—even beyond the Long Slumber, which may render them catatonic beneath the earth for centuries, where they are at their most vulnerable.
It is this instinct, coupled with their understanding of the patterns and cycles that seem to repeat themselves across the ages, that allows them to make choices increasingly devoid of emotion. It compels them to establish, preserve, and sustain systems of control—religion, monarchy, nobility, inheritance, and the dominion of land and resources—as instruments for achieving permanence, structure, and stability.
When the elders of other races and kinds age and fade into oblivion, the Revenants endure.
Yet their dominion has never rested upon longevity alone. It is their unrelenting devotion to order and structure, together with the relative fairness of their decrees and the ruthless, merciless nature of their justice, that has secured their supremacy over the Unseen Realm and, to some extent, over the world of mankind. They understand what few other creatures can: that power without structure eventually consumes itself, and that an order capable of surviving its rulers is more powerful than any ruler who commands it.
This principle is reflected most clearly in their hierarchy.
There are well-defined ranks among the Revenants, collectively known as the Archē, each determined by the purity of the blood and the lineage from which it descends. The closer a Revenant's genealogy lies to the primal blood of the Matriarch, the higher its station and the greater its power. Conversely, the farther an individual stands from the original blood of the All-Mother, the more diluted its humanity becomes, and the more beastlike its nature.
The Archē are recorded throughout the Bestiary, the Ember Codex, The Abouts, and the other works preserved within the hidden library of the chronicler of the Unseen Realm, Lord Darius von Croÿ.
They are as follows:
IMPERIUM — Created directly from the Black Blood and breath of the ancient goddess known as the All-Mother.
REGIS — Created by an Imperium Revenant.
NOBILIS — Created by a Regis Revenant.
CHEVALLIER — Created by a Nobilis Revenant.
PLEBEIUS — Created by a Chevallier Revenant. Plebeians are forbidden from creating others of their kind.
The Archē is more than a hierarchy of rank. It is a hierarchy of blood, and therefore a hierarchy of power. Among the Revenants, ancestry is not merely a matter of inheritance; it is the measure of what remains of the original essence bestowed by the All-Mother. The blood remembers what the flesh forgets.
The Plebeius stand at the lowest recognized station of the Archē. They are forbidden from attempting to create another of their kind, for the further dilution of the All-Mother's blood produces a creature increasingly removed from its human origin. What emerges is often more beast than person, governed less by reason than by hunger and instinct.
Yet there have been instances in which a Plebeian Revenant has turned a dying human.
Such creatures are known as ABERRANS.
V
The Vampire Genos
The first Revenants were fashioned by the All-Mother during the Dawn of the Unseen. Unlike every other race, they possess no natural birthright. A Revenant is never born, but made. Their existence begins with death, followed by rebirth through the Black Blood. Thus every Revenant carries two lineages: one inherited from mortal ancestry, another bestowed by the blood that transformed them.
IMPERIUM
The Highest Order

IMPERIUM
Created directly from the Black Blood and breath of the All-Mother.
The Imperium were the first Revenants and the closest beings to the primordial blood of the Mother. They were not merely rulers of the Revenants. They were the foundation upon which Revenant civilization was constructed. Ancient accounts describe them as beings of extraordinary power, intellect, and presence, whose abilities surpassed those of all later generations. Their names, where they survive at all, have become almost indistinguishable from myth. None are believed to remain. The circumstances of their destruction are unknown. Some records speak of a war. Others of betrayal. A few suggest that they were destroyed by forces older than the Revenants themselves. Whatever occurred, the Imperium vanished, leaving the Regis to inherit a world whose true architects had disappeared. Their extinction is the first great mystery of Revenant history.
Lord Darius von Croÿ

Lord Darius
Chronicler of the unseen
Darius, an immortal of devastating beauty and one of the Revenant Overlords, was chosen and resurrected by the All-Mother herself, who deemed him too exquisite to perish. Born before the time of Christ, he rose from death as an ageless vampire, seductive and emotionless, mastering the arts of manipulation and power. Unlike his brethren, however, Darius defied the genocidal crusade against the lycan race, for prophecy had warned that their destruction would bring about the downfall of the Revenants. Each century, he emerged from long slumber beneath his ancestral crypt, reinventing himself under the guise of a noble scion of the von Croy family, adopting names such as Darius, Darion, or Dariel. Cloaked in elegance, wealth, and refinement, he carried both the guilt of centuries and a longing for redemption, concealing the curse of his immortality behind masks of aristocratic grandeur.
In time, Darius’s path intertwined with that of Wolfgang, the last living male lycanthrope and a child of prophecy. Though at first he treated the boy as a pawn in his designs against the All-Mother, he grew to shelter and guide him, weaving a bond deeper than either expected. To Darius, Wolfgang became not merely an instrument of fate but a source of forbidden affection and fragile hope—the one being who might break the curse that bound him to eternal night. Thus, while Darius reigned among the Children of the Night as overlord and tempter, in the shadows of his heart lingered the dangerous possibility of salvation..
REGIS
The Revenant Overlords

REVENANT LORDS
Masters of the Underworld
Where the laws of men end, their authority begins.
Their blood remembered the ancient darkness more clearly than any that followed.
The Revenant Overlords are not merely vampires who rose to dominion over the hidden realms. They are something older, and their existence was neither accident nor whim. According to the oldest legends, the first Lords were fashioned from the blood and breath of the All-Mother, though not from her will. They were disembodied entities of immense power, later remembered in mortal traditions as the Princes of Hell, though the oldest records dispute whether Hell ever existed as a place at all. They ruled over the lower orders of creation, feeding upon them and keeping them beneath their dominion. In time, they assumed human form, until a primordial conflict between the highest forces of creation and the powers of the underworld brought about their destruction or exile. All but one vanished from the chronicles.
One remained. He was slain, yet the black blood of the All-Mother would not permit him to remain dead.
Ages later, during the Great War of the Unseen Realm, the balance of creation became so imperiled that the Grigori, the eternal Watchers of the cosmos, were compelled to intervene. Seven human vessels capable of containing their divine presence were identified—an occurrence so rare that such a vessel might appear only once in several millennia. Yet for all seven to exist within the same age was an event without precedent. To preserve those vessels across the ages, they were transformed into Revenants by the surviving Imperium.
Thus was born the first Court of the Undead.
As second-generation Revenants descended from an Imperium Revenant, these seven became known as the Regis, the second-highest order within the hierarchy of the Revenants. They were entrusted with the governance of the Unseen: to watch over its realms, preserve the ancient balance, administer justice, and enforce the laws by which its many races were bound.
They were not crowned because they sought power.
They were crowned because someone had to wield it.
And beneath their authority remained the ancient truth that no Revenant, no matter how exalted, could ever forget: the blood from which their dominion came still belonged to the All-Mother.
MERITAMEN
Meritamen
Regis
Meritamen is ancient beyond the memory of the Revenant Court itself, a woman who walked the earth when Egypt's first dynasties were still young and whose existence predates the rise of Rome by thousands of years. She appears as an extraordinarily old Black woman, her face deeply marked by time, her enormous gray-black hair falling around her like a dark mantle, and her body adorned with magnificent ancient Egyptian gold. Her eyes are pale and unnatural, almost emptied of mortal color, yet her expression remains perfectly composed. She does not appear fragile despite her age; she possesses the stillness of something that has simply outlasted nearly everything it once knew. Meritamen remembers the first kings, the earliest temples, dynasties that have become little more than fragments of archaeological memory, and generations of mortals whose descendants no longer know their names. Among the Revenants, she commands a peculiar reverence: not because she seeks authority, but because every other Lord understands that she remembers a world before most of their ancestors had ever existed. She has seen Pharaohs of the First Dynasty.

Xi

Xi
Regis
Xi was born millennia before Christ, the illegitimate son of a princess of the Xia Dynasty and a servant boy, and was abandoned at the doors of a temple, where monks raised him among ancient scriptures and the disciplines of spiritual life. Barely able to speak, he began recounting memories of lives that were not his own and describing realms beyond human comprehension; by the age of six, he was said to possess the gift of healing. Yet on rare occasions, the gentle boy seemed to disappear, his voice, manner, and very presence transformed by something far older than himself. Xi was a vessel for one of the Seven Grigori, the ancient Watchers who dwell beyond the Veil and observe the affairs of mortals and the unseen races. Such vessels are born only once in many millennia, for no ordinary human mind or body could withstand the presence of a divine Watcher without being destroyed. When the balance of the Unseen was threatened by the struggle for dominion among the Imperium Revenants, one of these ancient beings chose Xi as its vessel, and a Revenant transformed him so that he might endure across the ages. Thus Xi became something neither wholly mortal nor entirely divine: an immortal vessel carrying within him one of the oldest powers ever to watch the world—and destined to awaken when the fate of the realms once again hangs in the balance.
NOBILIS
The Guardians of Legacy

NOBILIS
The Third Generation
Among mortals, they appeared as nobles;
among Revenants, they were blood made rank.
The Nobilis, created by the Regis, form the great aristocracy of the Revenant world. Their blood is less pure than that of their creators, yet remains sufficiently potent to produce beings of formidable strength, intelligence, longevity, and supernatural ability. Their station is inherited through creation rather than mortal title, and no amount of wealth or achievement can elevate a lower Revenant into their bloodline.
For centuries, the Nobilis have served as the governors of territories, keepers of ancient houses, patrons of human dynasties, and intermediaries between the Regis and the lesser blood. Their influence often extends into the mortal world through noble families, estates, religious institutions, and accumulated fortunes. They are the hidden aristocracy beneath the visible one, shaping kingdoms while rarely appearing in their histories.
AMARANTA

Amaranta
Nobilis
Amaranta was created by a Regis, once the cherished daughter of his ancient human bloodline, and through his blood she became a Nobilis. In life, she had been impetuous, spoiled, and consumed by passions that burned as fiercely as her temper; immortality did not extinguish them, but left her trapped within them for centuries. Yet the endless night exacts its own price, and little by little the breadth of what she could feel began to wither, until desire itself became a rare and precious thing. Then she fell in love—or believed she had—and for the first time in centuries she dared to hope that perhaps this was not the end of her capacity for tenderness, that there might still be one last love, one last flame before even passion turned to ash. He was young, beautiful, honorable, and utterly beyond her reach. She pursued him, teased him, and tried to draw him into her darkness, but his heart belonged to another. His rejection wounded her more deeply than she could endure, for what began as longing slowly curdled into humiliation and despair. Unable to accept that even after centuries of immortality she could still be denied, Amaranta committed the cruelest act born of a broken heart: she took his mortality from him. She made him a Chevalier, binding him eternally to her as protector, companion, and intimate consort. He would remain beside her for all the nights that followed, not because he loved her, but because she had made certain he could never leave. And perhaps that was Amaranta's tragedy—that after centuries of fearing she would never love again, when love finally found her, she destroyed the very thing she had longed to possess.
CHEVALIER
The Revenant Knights

CHEVALIER
The Fourth Generation
They were given territory to defend and enemies to silence.
In the hierarchy of blood, they stood where power became duty.
The Chevalliers, created by the Nobilis, occupy the martial and administrative tier of the Archē. Their blood is further removed from the All-Mother, but remains powerful enough to make them formidable predators and effective agents of the higher orders. They have traditionally served as guardians, commanders, enforcers, and keepers of Revenant territories, carrying out the will of those whose blood stands above theirs.
The Chevallier is often the first rank to encounter the practical burdens of Revenant existence: defending territory, maintaining secrecy, suppressing threats, and controlling the lesser blood. They possess considerable freedom compared with those beneath them, but that freedom ends where the authority of the higher Archē begins. Their greatest distinction is therefore not merely power, but service to an order that predates their own existence.
LEANDER
Leander
The Chevallier
Leander first encountered Amaranta without knowing what she truly was. During an attack on a remote estate, he found an apparently defenseless noblewoman surrounded by danger and intervened, risking his own life to save her. Amaranta was accustomed to mortals trembling before her, yet this young knight had protected her without asking her name, seeking reward, or knowing that she was a Nobilis. She became fascinated by him almost immediately. What began as amusement became admiration, then obsession, and eventually what she believed was love. Leander admired her in return, but only as the mysterious woman he believed her to be; when he discovered the truth, he could not give her the love she wanted. His heart belonged to another, and he could not reconcile himself to the darkness she represented. His rejection devastated Amaranta precisely because she had once believed that he had chosen her freely. When she transformed him, she turned the meaning of their first encounter upside down: the man who had once chosen to protect her became the man who was forced to remain by her side.
